Silicone Selection and Areas of Use
Choosing the right silicone is the first and most important step for a successful application. The correct type should be selected according to the intended use:
Aquarium Silicone: Designed for bonding heavy glass and providing waterproof sealing. It is safe for aquatic life and is also preferred for terrarium construction.
RTV Silicone (Heat-Resistant): Used in areas exposed to high temperatures, such as fireplaces and ovens. It maintains its flexibility between -40°C and +350°C while providing insulation.
Shower Cabin Silicone: Specially designed to provide waterproof sealing in joints between glass and walls in bathrooms and shower cabins.
Mirror Silicone: Used for mounting mirrors onto walls. Tip: Instead of applying it in an “X” pattern, apply it in strips at 5 cm intervals on the back of the mirror. After installation, secure the mirror with tape for 24 hours.
General Purpose Silicone: Suitable for sealing and bonding various household surfaces such as sinks, kitchen countertops, glass, ceramics, wood, and sanitary ware.
How to Apply Silicone and What Should Be Considered?
To achieve maximum performance and long-lasting results, follow these steps:
Surface Preparation: The application area must be completely dry, free from moisture, and clean. Any old silicone residue should be thoroughly removed.
Masking: For a neat and professional finish, apply masking tape along both sides of the application area.
Application: Using a silicone gun, apply the silicone evenly and continuously without leaving gaps. If necessary, smooth it gently with a finger or spatula.
Curing and Final Check: Allow the silicone to cure. Once fully cured, carefully remove the masking tape.
